Anna Nicole Smith companion Howard K. Stern's reputation is so bad that not even a book claiming he and Smith's boyfriend were gay lovers is libelous, the author's lawyer claims.
"Given the mountain of negative news stories that were previously published about plaintiff, Mr. Stern is libel-proof," lawyer Elizabeth McNamara wrote in a letter to Manhattan Federal Judge Denny Chin. McNamara represents former TV reporter Rita Cosby, the author of "Blonde Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith's Death." Stern is suing Cosby and her publishers for $60 million, claiming 19 passages in "Blonde Ambition" damaged his reputation. He cites one in which Cosby quotes actress Jackie Hatten claiming she walked in on Stern performing oral sex on Larry Birkhead - the father of Smith's baby. Stern met the former Playboy Playmate model in 1997 and was her lawyer and confidant for 10 years. |
